Tom the Octopus 

This project was based on creating a 30 second animation. Could use any kind of animation we liked to but had to tell a story. It had to include more than one type of animation which we used cut out animation and clay animation.The demographics for this animation were and are not specific, this is because there is a range of audience that this could be targeted to. Ages between 10-14 are more directed because an adult at age 40+ might not like a silly octopus just going across and making a ship sink. Targeted to those who like animations like cut out or clay animation, those who like pirate themed or sea life themed. Throughout this project we have realised animation isn’t our ideal project. Even though we enjoyed it and did like editing it together after, we felt that we struggled to take the pictures, it took longer then it should of.Our animation was about an octopus called Tom, attacks a ship in the ocean, the animation begins with a range of letters appearing to make up a short and snappy sentence. Then as he attacks the ship, the ship sinks, there’s a scene under water where theses fish swimming across as well as the ship still sinking down to the ocean bed. At the end the octopus swims by goes into a black screen. The very end of the animation there is a scene where clay animation used.

However if I did this project again I would do a lot differently, this isn’t because I didn’t like the idea or enjoyed it, its because I feel that if I had more experience I would have been able to make it more smooth and professional rather then it looking so childish etc.
I would think of a different idea because I would like to make it longer and more fun, enjoyable and entertaining to watch. I would have made the Octopus more realistic, made more effort when making the materials for the animation, I would use more then 2 animation types such as toy animation. I would use a toy octopus rather then one cut out. I think the sound went so well because I feel that it matched exactly with the imagery and it all layered up so it wasn't patchy as such. the sound of the sea, the sound of the ships works so well with the whole theme and idea behind it. 

We handed out a sort form so people could fill in while watching the animation or after. Most of the audience where aged  between ages 17-20. We asked a few children as well who were at the ages of 10-15. I feel that this animation was better for younger ages because it shows from the feedback sheets those who were at a higher age or don't have interest in animations or pirate at all wont enjoy it. 
On the other hand the feedback's where all positive, even though we think there was a lot we could improve, all of the feedback's say that the sound worked so well with the imagery, good story line, however again it should have been longer or slower. 100% of the results from the feedback sheets were that the audio was great, well layered and sounded perfect.

There is visual evidence that the audio was said to be perfect however I think it should of been done better, we could have used sound of fishes swimming across, or the ship sinking. We could have used made our own sounds/ audios from  objects like making sounds of splashes when Tom the Octopus comes to the surface of the water to make the ship crash. There are sounds used when the ship is still at sea, sounds like people having a party on deck but on the other hand, it could have made more obvious, it wasn't as clear so no one could tell what actually was going on on the pirate ship.



From the graph you can see above, I have asked what gender people were in my feedback sheet. From the graph you can tell males made more attention to the animation, it had more views then females and filled in the feedback sheet that I made. This could lead to the demographics of the animation that we have made. It shows that its targeted towards those who enjoy animations and have interest in them, even though there was some females who said they enjoy it too, there was a higher percentage of woman who viewed it. 

The Psychographics for this animation I would say are not specific because there could be a range of status' or classes like higher class or lower. Anyone could watch it because it has no specific target, it is something that someone has to have an interest in animations or pirate themed videos. 


I also mentioned a question which was: " What other animation techniques do you think we could encouperate ? I feel that, this question was so reasonable and good to ask so if I wanted to do this project again I could use a different range of techniques such as: object animation, toymation, claymation and pixilation all mentioned from the feedback the audience have answered for me. 
Do you feel that the frames per second was at a steady pace? 

I asked this question because I feel that in any video production frames per second is the most important, i wanted to know if the audience could see it how I see, if it was slow or fast they would mention it which some have. some said that the scenes could have been slower so the story was told better and for the audience to understand it better. some said it moved too fast and was hard to follow. So if i was to do it again I would take more pictures with less movement to make it slower and the frames per second to match in every scene. 
In conclusion, I feel that the project went so well because looked like how we wanted it to, didn't look as professional as we wanted it to look and as smooth but the audience liked it and highly enjoyed it. We enjoyed using After effects to edit the animation together because we found it easier then Abobe Premiere and felt that we learned something.

Production

When producing our Cut out animation we had the best time, as in we enjoyed it. We realised we work so well together and think our idea came out nicely. However we did have a few arguments towards the end just because we was very stressed. We thought it was failing but at the end it all came together. We used Two box lights and the camera with the tripod in between so it all was balanced.

In the lesson we received the brief that we are meant to create an animation for.

We then decide who we wanted to do this with. From past experiences i felt that I work well with Callum and that we tend to produce work at its best when we work together, we can both add something across and make it work at its highest standard. 

We started to look at some videos online and think which kind of animation we would like to do. It was the research I guess that made us realise Cut out animation is something we can both do and can both do something that links with it, we done it before and thought is the best out of the other 3 we was thinking of. 

 In the brief it says to produce a brainstorm which we began to do. we started to just write down exactly what we was thinking, all from our mind. It didn't make sense but then when we decided what we wanted to do it was easy which side we wanted to do towards

Producing a pre-production folder, you will need a storyboard of what will be happening, You will need a paper idea of it all. I have produced my own mini Storyboard for the idea e have came up with.

When we were thinking of the name for the animation we managed to produce a small survey on what name people prefer to call an octopus. We designed a table and came up with some names. Went around the class asking which name they would prefer.

From the table you can see that To the Octopus was the most popular name so we have called our mini cut out animation Tom the Octopus which we think goes pretty well with the whole idea. 

Every production, animation or film needs a production schedule to know what will be going on and when. It will include the time it starts and where its taking place. For ours we included the time the production will begin which is at 1:00pm and where which is NCN Adams Building.

Clay animation

what is clay animation ? 
Clay animation is when you have a bit of clay and you make something out of it like an object or some sort of creature. Then you make it do something so you move it round or move its arms and legs to make it do something. Its all done with clay so its all clay animated.

What I did?
I manged to make a mini clay animated little monster or gust. I named it Tincky and it was a pink colour with two googly eyes. I made it look like it was flying around with the rainbow in the background. The animation is called 'Rainbow love'.

If i did this again what would i do differently? 

If I did this again I would think of a better idea as my character/ monster didn't have much of a movement, it just looked like it was moving around like the body didn't move etc. It wasn't as smooth as I wanted it to be and it didn't look really professional. i should have made her arms move and maybe did something else, not just move around the screen. 

Why do I like these clay animations?
I like these two animations because Shaun the sheep was my favorite animated cartoon I used to watch on CBBC when I was younger, I used to love it but I never new how it was made.
The first one includes Pingu which I remember I also used to watch when I was younger, There were short animated clips made that just popped up between programs. These animations bring back memories and the way they are made is so creative, i like them a lot.

what is FPS?

FPS stand for frames per second, a measurement for how many unique following images a camera can handle each second. 

Low-end digital still cameras typically have a frame rate of 1fps. Low end digital video cameras typically have a frame rate of 30fps, 25fps and even less depending on what needs to be filmed and how fats or slow, the second matter the most as they are very important.
